Educontests awards second annual Scholarship to Mavis Britwum (now Dr. Britwum)

It is our distinct pleasure and honor to inform Ms. Mavis Britwum, OMS IV, RowanSOM has been chosen as the recipient of the 2020 Educontests Scholarship. She has been chosen to receive the Scholarship from a pool of our applicants as she best exemplifies the spirit of community service and scholarship promoted by this organization.

Mavis works on issues of mass incarceration and income inequality. She holds a B.A. in English from The College of New Jersey and a Masters’ in Biomedicine from Eastern Mennonite University. Her graduate research explored health care disparities among a low-income population in Harrisonburg, Virginia. This speech was delivered by Mavis at FCNL’s Annual Meeting on November 14, 2015.

Educontests commends Mavis for all her achievements and thanks her for her dedicated service. Until a more ceremonial presentation in the near future is possible due to COVID-19, a check for $1000 has been awarded to Mavis.


Educontests awards inaugural Scholarship to Rowan University student

Rowan University student Kasmier Vicioso, 23 received the inaugural EduContests Scholarship Award. Viciosio is a freshman and is pursuing a BS in Biochemistry as part of the seven-year accelerated BS/DO program with the Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM). Kasmier graduated at the top of her class from Camden’s Promise Charter School and was selected for the BS/DO program from a group of highly competitive applicants.

“Financial concerns and lack of resources are often barriers to students excelling academically, so this scholarship will provide needed financial support and allow Kasmier to focus on her studies, maintain the required GPA (3.6), and successfully complete the program,” commented Dr. Deneen Hendrick, Rowan’s Coordinator of Pre-Health Studies.


Educontests donates $500 to Manav Sadhna

From a peaceful corner of the Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, Manav Sadhna (MS) has been humbly serving since 1995 to strengthen underprivileged communities in Ahmedabad, India through programs in Holistic Education, Nutrition, Health and Hygiene, Youth and Women’s Empowerment, Senior Care, Livelihoods and more.

Although there is great diversity among these programs, they are all based on people’s participation and evolve according to the needs of the community. Over time, they have seen the holistic growth transformation of the communities with significant improvements in sanitation, education and health.
